Daniel is on the phone discussing his hand tremors. Kate overhears the conversation and wants to talk to Daniel about it. Daniel tells her to get lost. Kate sees the tremors as Daniel struggles to pick up his cell phone from the table. Kate sits down and clears the air. She knows he is a fine surgeon and she is grateful to him that he saved her son's life as well a her own.
She tells him she will not sugar coat anything like Maggie or Melanie would do. Daniel sits with her and she tells him she understands how hard this must be for him if he loses his identity as a surgeon. She also tells him it could be nothing. Daniel is still suspicious of Kate's motives. But when tearful Kate tells him she loved him once and she is there if he needs to talk, the mood changes. Daniel senses her sincerity. He asks her "what is she doing". When Melanie arrives, Kate leaves. Daniel is not sure what just happened. Daniel sits with Melanie. He finally gets her to open up about liking Chad. Melanie laments to Daniel about love being hard. Papa Dan takes her hand in support.
