At the hospital, Chloe is devastated when she learns there is no baby. She is not pregnant. Daniel explains to her that her body was reacting to her desire to be pregnant and mimicking pregnancy. Chloe is distraught, she cries tears of sorrow. She feels foolish. Daniel comforts her, assuring her that they have each other and they will have children. Chloe is still upset when Daniel gets called away for an emergency.
Lexie updates him on Melanie's condition. Melanie has a gun shot wound close to the heart. They will need to operate on her immediately. Daniel is stunned to learn that Carly was the one who shot Melanie.
In surgery, Daniel is able to repair the gun shot wound to the heart, but when he goes to close the wound, Melanie's heart stops. Daniel has to do a cardiac message in an attempt to get it going again.
