At the Kiriakis mansion, Daniel confronts Vivian. He tells her he knows that she was in Melanie's room trying to kill her. If Phillip hadn't interrupted her, she would have finished the job she started. Daniel is livid. He warns Vivian to stay the hell away from Melanie. Victor enters and listens to Daniel's hostility towards Vivian. He reminds Daniel that Carly was the one who shot Melanie. Victor wants to know why Daniel is so concerned to go to these extremes for Melanie. Daniel hides the fact that he is Melanie's biological father from Victor. He tells Victor that Melanie is his patient and he will not have the work he has done to save her destroyed by Vivian. At the hospital, Bo approaches Daniel. He wants his permission to take Melanie's statement. Daniel is bitter and says no. He doesn't want her reliving that night. Daniel confronts Bo about keeping Carly's secret from him. Bo tells Daniel it wasn't his place to tell him. It had to come from Carly.
Later, Daniel finds Carly in the lounge area. He tells her again to stay away from Melanie. Carly tells him she came to speak with him not Melanie. Carly apologizes again for what she has done and says she will make it up to both of them for the pain she has caused. Daniel tells her he hopes she gets the chance, because Bo is taking Melanie's statement about the shooting. Carly's life is in Melanie's hand.
