Outside the Brady Pub , Daniel spots Melanie sitting in the cold. He is meeting her for coffee and tells her she should be taking care of herself after just being released from the hospital. He escorts her to the entrance of the restaurant. Melanie slips on the ice, but catches herself . In the restaurant, Daniel gives Melanie a locket that belonged to his mother. He tells Melanie that his mom would have liked her. Melanie looks forward to hearing all about her family. Daniel promises to hunt up some photos for her.
Chloe enters the pub. She spots Daniel with Melanie and knows they need some time alone together, so she graciously declines joining them. Melanie comments on how happy she makes Daniel. Daniel says that Chloe is his everything, life, his family. Before Chloe leaves she tells Melanie she looks forward to getting to know her.
Daniel's conversation with Melanie broaches the subject of Carly. Melanie doesn't want anything to do with her. She is unaware that Carly is standing behind her and has heard the remark. Melanie gets upset with Carly and runs out of the pub. Carly wants to go after her, but Daniel tells her no. He will go. When Daniel races after Melanie, he slips on the patch of ice. He falls to the ground with a large gash above his eye.
